Hello,
I had my scan on Wednesday, October 24 and received the results on Monday. I’m still in remission!!! There is still hypermetabolic rate in the tumors—about 3.3 in one and 3.0 in another. However Dr. Walsh does not seem concerned.
As I told you I was extremely stressed to receive the results from the latest PET scan. My pulse when I first walked into the Dr.’s office was 96 bpm. By the time we left it was at 76 bpm. Talk about being over the top loony toons!! J I’m sure I’ll do it all again when it’s time for the new scan.
However, the scan did discover a “moderately increased uptake in the GE junction region, new from the prior PET study, and correlating with diffuse GE junction and proximal stomach thickening on CT.” WHAT?!?!?! The metabolic rate of this junction is 7.4, which of course freaks me out.
Dr. Walsh, again, is not concerned. He said it looks like normal stomach activity instead of anything cancerous. And I’m trying to believe him. As I peppered him with questions (I swear the poor man must take a deep breath and say to himself, “Serenity Now,” before he meets with us), he told us that PET scans show a lot of good stuff and they show a lot of other stuff that’s no big deal. He noted that my endoscopy showed nothing in my stomach and there has been nothing on any of my prior scans.
I took that to mean that if it was something to worry about, it would have shown up earlier and they would have been following it. Also, Dr. Walsh has ordered follow up tests for every funky thing that has showed up in a scan just to be sure it wasn’t something scary. The fact that he hasn’t ordered more tests further confirms that he isn’t concerned.
And then I asked him, “So I shouldn’t be ordering my casket?” And he laughed and said, “No you certainly shouldn’t be ordering your casket.”
So I won’t order my casket. But I will worry!! J And I will have a ton of follow up questions to ask at my next visit on the 12th.
Thank you all for your unbelievably caring and touching emails and posts after my last posting. You picked me up and helped me once again! And when I said I would like to trade places with you, I certainly did not mean that I want you to have cancer….when I went back and read what I wrote, I thought it might have sounded that way. You have all been so good to me and I don’t think I can ever show enough gratitude.
On a lighter note:
Wicked was unbelievable. Wow!! I recommend you go see it. I would see it again in a heartbeat. The only shows I’ve ever seen are Wicked, The Nutcracker, Riverdance and Miss Saigon. The only two I would run back to see are Wicked and Riverdance. I loved the Nutcracker but can’t say I would run right back to see it.
Halloween was good. The kids have tons of candy so I’m in a bit of a chocolate coma because I do help myself to their candy.
Happy Birthday to my Mom! Her birthday was yesterday.
Karen Puntillo: I miss seeing you at field hockey. I hope the pregnancy is going well and I can’t wait for you to come back!
Love,
Kim
