Hello Everyone - It's Greg writing for Kim in what will be a short post. After fighting a cold and high fever (99 to 100) for a couple days, Kim's fever broke through the important threshold of 100.4 and we had to head to the ER at UMass Memorial to get her evaluated. With the ongoing chemo treatments, Kim’s immune system is suppressed and seemingly mild infections can potentially become very problematic if not kept in check. Anyway, the temp of 100.4 is a tipping point and she broke through it big time Sunday afternoon.
After some blood work, the docs couldn’t detect an infection but knew something was going on because Kim’s white blood cell count was lower than normal (meaning she was affected by the chemo and some type of infection). OK so if Kim’s ‘mature’ white blood cell count was above 1,000 she can go home. Drum roll…. And the number: 864. So Mrs. Abusheery gets admitted to the confines of the Oncology ward at Memorial (she’s in room 527 West by the way). On a side note, who knew that white blood cells can be immature; it gives me hope that I’m not the only one battling maturity. Anyway…
Kim’s is in good shape physically, but just really tired. We’re hoping she gets some rest and antibiotics and gets home soon.
It goes without saying how much your support means to Kim – every post, card, note and word of encouragement give her strength – You’re all doing God’s work. Thank You.
That’s all for now and we’ll keep you all posted (pun intended).
