Part II
Katie has done an outstanding job of overcoming her obstacles. I mentioned her in an earlier post but I’ll take a second and repeat myself. She started walking with a walker when she was around 2.5 years old and graduated to crutches when she was five. She has a beautiful pair of pink ones and a pair of purple ones. She loves going to Kindergarten, swimming, playing soccer, t-ball, dancing and being a girly girl!!
The funny thing is we were reminiscing about the first time Katie displayed her determination to overcome her handicap. Katie was about a year old and we were at the Twitchell’s house. They have a step down into their family room. Katie pulled herself up and over the step from the family room and into their kitchen. That small act was just a glimpse into Katie’s future.
Kelly Newcomb is a neighbor and friend of the Twitchell’s and is also a very dear friend to me. She was also at the Twitchells the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. Kelly was my second boss at Reebok. She was the kind of boss that requires you to perform at your best and pulls the potential right out of you. Although I was petrified when I first found out I would be working for her, she taught me so much about professionalism, accomplishment and perseverance. Kelly is also an incredibly warm, compassionate person. Kelly introduced me to Kathy.
Kelly has sent me so many nice emails and memorable posts in my guestbook. But the beautiful letter she wrote me early in this whole ordeal is something I pull out and read over and over again.
We had such a good time with all of you. It was one of the best days I’ve had in a long time. Thank you so much for the food, the margaritas and the company. We laughed a lot that day and laughing is always good for the soul.
What was not good for my soul?? Remember how I was begging for someone to play Monopoly with me (I’m actually always looking for someone to play Monopoly with me—it’s pretty much an open invitation to anyone out there who’s ever looking to play!! J )? Well I played once with Kerry and once with Greg (twice in one weekend. I was psyched!!!). I got absolutely killed both times. Apparently, Donald Trump I am not!!!
Thank you to Mary Jane Rasku and to Tina McAndrew for feeding us the week of May 21st. The meals were delicious and so appreciated. See, I’m so so so behind!!!
I will fill you in with more stuff from the rest of the last few weeks over the next couple of days.
Love,
Kim
